At Year 10 pupils at Appleford are enrolled on the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. Nationally recognised by universities and employers, this scheme presents pupils with a range of challenges which develop such important skills as communication, leadership, resilience, team work and becoming resourceful and independent thinkers; all identified skills for work and life.
To achieve each level (Bronze, Silver and Gold) pupils must engage in aspects of:
- voluntary service
- personal interest
- physical fitness
- undertake a self-supported expedition.
The Bronze and Silver assessed overnight expeditions are usually held on the Salisbury Plain in small groups of approximately 6 pupils during the Summer Terms.
Without a doubt the Duke of Edinburgh programme gives our pupils a unique experience and we are proud to achieve amongst the highest levels of participation and success in any school across the county.
