Co-Curricular

“Co-Curricular activities are a key strength of the school”

Independent Schools Inspectorate

We place a high emphasis on the sporting, personal and social benefits of co-curricular activities and as such these play a vital role in life at Appleford.

Additionally, specialist clubs such as horse riding, judo, tennis, yoga, music and LAMDA are delivered on a weekly basis.

One afternoon a week is designated for co-curricular activity lessons which provide two hours of timetabled activities and opportunities for all of our pupils. Here, our sports teams have the chance to train together and a wide range of sports fixtures with other schools are arranged each term.

Staff  organise a number of high quality educational trips at home and abroad throughout the year which enhance the curriculum.

  • Skiing trips to Austria and Italy
  • Work experience home and abroad
  • Biannual charity work in India
  • Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
  • Annual ‘Appleford Challenge’ which has previously included the famous 3 Peaks Challenge, the demanding Welsh 3000s Mountaineering Challenge, hiking the gruelling 40km Sarsen Trail and cycling 160 miles from Appleford to the Houses of Parliament along the canal path
  • Closer to home trips have included visiting places such as the Natural History Museum, National Army Museum, Lulworth Cove and the Living Rainforest in Newbury.
