Children are taught in their classes, alongside their peers. Sometimes, however, individual pupils require specialist support either in class or through additional individual or small group support from specialist therapeutic professionals.
At Appleford, we provide this through our in-house, highly qualified, Occupational and Speech and Language Therapists and the Pastoral Team. Working within the Learning Support Department, they provide clearly targeted interventions which are reviewed on a termly basis to ensure pupils receive the support they need, when they need it.
Our Occupational Therapy Department uses all manner of ways to support our pupils. One of our Occupational Therapists brings Chewie to school, a 4 year old Yorkshire Terrier cross Bichon Frise who helps in the OT sessions. Chewie works hard to support some of the pupils who may be anxious or in need of a little more support, as he loves cuddles and playing. He is also very helpful when doing sessions on Zones of Regulation; the OT department use him as an example to help the children work out what zone he might be in and what could help to calm him
In addition, Appleford is able to offer the services of our own fully qualified counsellor.
